Lançado em 1987, The Uplift Mofo Party Plan foi o último de Red Hot Chili Peppers a conter o guitarrista Hillel Slovak na formação, pois faleceu no ano seguinte. Não suportando a perda de Slovak, o baterista Jack Irons deixou a banda. O terceiro disco de RHCP apresentou "Fight Like a Brave" como único single. No entanto, a música "Me and My Friends" chegou a ser executada nas rádios; e "Behind the Sun" só foi divulgada em 1992 devido à coletânea What Hits!?.
